Following the tragic oil platform explosion that claimed two lives earlier this week, the Aberdeen High Court has issued a decisive ruling against Engineer Justin Gideon, the American petroleum engineer and lead supervisor on the ill-fated project operated by Kahn Global Drilling.

The court has ordered Mr. Gideon to pay a total of $738,000 in compensation to the families of the deceased workers $369,000 per family as part of a legal settlement tied to the incident. The payment is to be made in full before Mr. Gideon is permitted to leave the country, underscoring the severity of the case and the legal system’s commitment to justice for the victims.

Mr. Gideon, who hails from Austin, Texas, was overseeing a $120 million offshore drilling operation when the explosion occurred at approximately 1:35 PM. The blast, caused by an oil leak, resulted in substantial damage to the platform and loss of life. The court also ruled that Engineer Gideon will be held personally responsible for all damages caused by the fire, although a full financial assessment of the infrastructure loss is still pending.

This development comes as investigators continue to probe the chain of events that led to the explosion. Sources close to the investigation emphasize that while negligence has not yet been formally established, the court’s ruling reflects a strong position on accountability and the duty of care expected on such high-risk projects.

Kahn Global Drilling has yet to release a statement on whether they will support Mr. Gideon in fulfilling the court’s financial demands or assume any share of liability.
